Lo Lauren was one of those artists where the second she started, I was completely locked in.
She played our Sound City showcase in 2024, which also happened to be the only Sound City I’ve actually gotten to attend in person so far, and I don’t think I fully recovered from her set. There’s something about the way she performs that just pulls you in. It feels effortless, a little playful, and completely her.
There’s a charm to it that’s hard to explain but impossible to ignore. It’s polished without feeling overly serious, confident without feeling forced, and just the right amount of quirky in a way that makes everything feel more fun. You can tell she’s enjoying it, and somehow that makes you enjoy it more too.
I took these photos that night, mostly because I didn’t want to forget it. And I knew I wouldn’t be the only one walking away thinking the same thing.
John booked her for that showcase, which says everything. He had a real instinct for artists who had something a little extra, something you couldn’t quite define but immediately recognized. Lo Lauren fits that perfectly.
In John’s absence last year, while he was in the hospital, I asked Lo to sit at our Ivors table with us. It felt important. Like a small way of carrying that instinct forward.
Her music lives somewhere between pop and something more personal, but it never feels heavy. There’s a lightness to it, even when it’s saying something real. It’s the kind of music that sneaks up on you, in the best way.
Lo Lauren isn’t just someone you watch perform.
She’s someone you want to keep watching.
