South West London artist LEES creates music that feels intimate in a way that pulls you in quietly.
Her early releases, including Night Wars, were shaped during lockdown alongside producers Liam Howe and Eg White, blending atmospheric production with deeply personal songwriting. There’s a mix of influence running through it, from the ethereal edges of Portishead to the emotional directness of artists like Laura Marling and Imogen Heap, all coming together in something that feels both delicate and grounded.
John was a big supporter of LEES, drawn to artists who led with honesty in their writing, and she was very much that. We spent time together in London early on, including a show at Soho House and the Ivors that same year, which made her connection to this world feel especially close for a moment in time.
Her music leans into themes of relationships, change, and emotional shifts, told in a way that feels more reflective than performative. It’s the kind of writing that sits with you a little, rather than demanding attention right away.
