Nashville, Tenn., October 5, 2023 – SESAC, BMI, ASCAP and a host of music industry friends joined in celebration at the SESAC office on Wednesday, October 4 to recognize Megan Moroney’s debut single, “Tennessee Orange,” topping the charts.

“Tennessee Orange,” which Moroney (SESAC) co-wrote with Ben Williams (ASCAP), David Fanning (BMI), and Paul Jenkins (BMI), hit the number one spot in June. Catapulting her into the spotlight, the Kristian Bush-produced song led to Moroney’s record deal with Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records after it quickly went viral and surpassed a million streams within days of its release.

As a follow-up to the viral hit, Moroney’s self-assured anthem “I’m Not Pretty” is currently at Country radio, which serves at the opening track to the star’s widely acclaimed debut album. Moroney released her debut album, LUCKY, via Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records in May of this year. Go here to stream/download LUCKY now.

Most recently, she received nominations for New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Tennessee Orange” at the upcoming 57th Annual CMA Awards, marking her first time ever being nominated at the event.

“It’s insane getting to sing this song every night,” Moroney reflected last night. “And I don’t even have to introduce the song anymore, everyone just freaks out. My fans are also the best. It’s just been a crazy year. My life now from a year ago is completely different and I’m very grateful. It’s just very surreal to be here.”

On hand to honor the group were Shannan Hatch (SESAC), MaryAnn Keen (BMI), Mike Sistad (ASCAP), Lauren Thomas (Columbia Nashville), Steve Hodges (Sony Music Nashville), Rusty Gaston (Sony Music Publishing), John Ozier (Reservoir), Andy Friday (Major Bob), and David DeVaul (Pinnacle Financial Partners). Gibson Guitars created a “Tennessee Orange” wrapped guitar to present to Megan in honor of her first number one hit.
