Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau 3rd Annual Intl Songwriting Competition

The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is announcing its third annual “Music City Songwriting Competition” with multi-platinum recording artist and songwriter Josh Turner serving as the honorary host. The Nashville CVB will partner with GAC, Sirius XM Radio, Jack Daniel’s, Southwest Airlines, f.y.e., Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and Renaissance Nashville Hotel to make it all happen.

The winning songwriter will receive a $1,000 cash prize and two roundtrip Southwest Airline tickets to Music City. While in town, the winner will be given a personal backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry by Josh Turner. The winning song will be played on Sirius XM Radio’s “Music City Connection: Heroes Behind the Hits,” a monthly radio show recorded and produced by the Nashville CVB. In addition, the winner will also receive a writing session with a professional songwriter and an Epiphone Masterbuilt Acoustic guitar. Transportation, hotel accommodations at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel and complimentary admission to over 30 Nashville attractions are also included.

Entries will be narrowed down to the top 25 which will then be judged by a panel of top names in the Nashville music industry, including Josh Turner, Grammy winning songwriter Tim Nichols, ASCAP’s Mike Sistad, music executive Alex Torrez, GAC Host and Sirius XM radio personality Storme Warren and Nashville CVB President Butch Spyridon. Judges will rate each song based on the following criteria: melody, composition, originality, lyrics and, most importantly, commercial appeal. Everyone who enters the Music City Songwriting Competition will receive a copy of Josh Turner’s upcoming album, and the 25 finalists will also receive a certificate of recognition and a Music City gift bag.

The competition will accept entries from June 1 – October 1, 2009 and is open to amateur songwriters only. Songs may be submitted on CD to P.O.
