SESAC Affiliate Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” Added to National Recording Registry
Today, Kenny Rogers’ 1978 hit single “The Gambler,” written by Don Schlitz, was among the many prolific titles named to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress.
“The SESAC family could not be more pleased to congratulate affiliate Kenny Rogers and his achievement with ‘The Gambler,’ which has been named to the 2017 class of the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress,” said John Josephson, Chairman and CEO, SESAC Inc. “The recording of ‘The Gambler,’ written by Don Schlitz, is just one of many songs that Kenny interpreted over the course of his prolific and diverse career, making him one of the most inspiring performers in America.”
“The song was not written about gambling, it was written with a very personal look at life,” said Rogers. “To say I’m proud is an understatement. It speaks very highly for Don Schlitz’s writing ability. I am very impressed and appreciative of this great award.”
