SESAC’s Robert Glasper Receives First Emmy Award

SESAC affiliate Robert Glasper was among the winners at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which was presented over the weekend at the Microsoft Theater LA LIVE in Los Angeles.  Glasper, along with Karriem Riggins and Common, received the Emmy Award for their original song Letter to the Free from Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary “13th” in the Music & Lyrics category.  Both Common and Glasper accepted their first Emmy Award, together, in person at Saturday’s ceremony.  In addition, “13th” led the winners field with four trophies—special documentary, writing, motion design, and original music and lyrics.  Earlier this year, the song was nominated for a Critics Choice Award.  The Netflix documentary also collected a Peabody Award and an Oscar nomination this year.
