Reigning at No. 1 on Billboard, Nicky Jam signs a worldwide deal with SESAC Latina as a songwriter
A winner at the 2015 YouTube Music Awards and a pioneer of the urban-Latino music movement, he tops three singles charts with his smash hit “El Perdón.”
LOS ANGELES (March 24, 2015) – With his co-written and co-performed song “El Perdón” (Forgiveness), the vocalist and songwriter Nicky Jam takes a triple crown on the Billboard singles charts. He holds the No. 1 spot on the competitive Hot Latin Songs, which includes hits from all Latin genres receiving sales and airplay in the United States and Puerto Rico. He also leads the Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay rankings.
Meanwhile, as a composer, he has signed a worldwide deal with SESAC Latina for his performing rights, joining the creative roster with the greatest potential in the music industry.
Co-written by Nicky Jam and his featured artist, Enrique Iglesias, together with Juan Medina Vélez and Christian Camilo Mena, “El Perdón” reached No. 1 on Billboard in its sixth week on the airplay charts, which are generated by Nielsen BDS’ radio monitoring system.
Welcoming Nicky Jam to the society is SESAC Latina Vice President J. J. Cheng, who notes, “Nicky Jam comes to our family of songwriters at a great time in his career. This is reflected in his simultaneous presence on multiple Billboard charts.”
In its third week at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, “El Perdón” accomplishes its triple feat on Billboard magazine’s charts for the issue date of March 28-April 3, 2015.
Starring its two performers, the official music video of “El Perdón” was filmed on location in Medellín, Colombia, and Miami. It premiered on March 23.
Since its debut in January 2015, “El Perdón” has garnered over 115 million views on YouTube (including its official audio and lyric videos).
Nicky Jam joins SESAC Latina just as he is honored with a 2015 YouTube Music Award, given to a select group of 50 artists whose videos have caused the most worldwide impact with views, shares, likes, comments and channel subscriptions.
Making history, Nicky Jam is the only Latino to receive a YouTube Music Award this year. He joins other iconic, globally known award winners including Beyonce, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Ella Henderson, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Sam Smith, and Taylor Swift.
