SESAC NYC Rising: Winners announced!

Diverse group of five great artists rises to the top of artist development program sponsored by SESAC, Brooklyn Industries, ReverbNation & The MuseBox  – indy rock, hip-hop, singer/songwriters, and more!

Winners have been announced for the 2011 NYC Rising Musician Scholarship program.  Sponsored by SESAC, Brooklyn Industries, ReverbNation & The MuseBox, the competition features up and coming tri-state area artists and their music.  A panel of judges narrowed the list from over 800 submissions to a list of 16 finalists, and then the public had their say.  The votes are in, and five NYC area artists have been chosen for the chance of a lifetime.

Immediately following their debut show in September 2010, Headless Horseman was invited to play several high profile CMJ showcases. The band was featured in a prestigious residency at Piano’s, which included other artists such as Rewards, Blood Orange, Das Racist, and Brahms and was filmed in its final night by MTV. The band was named a "band to watch" by Stereogum, Death and Taxes, and Prefix and their debut EP is expected in November.

Julien Funk creates a unique blend of folk rock and melodic pop music that has fans of both The National and John Mayer lining up to see him live. Following the release of his EP, “Another Reason (to lie to yourself)”, Julien has garnered nation-wide media attention and commercial radio play. An East Village transplant from Canada, he has already immersed himself in the New York music scene having played shows at Arlene's Grocery, Rockwood Music Hall, National Underground, and Living Room.

Little Devil, an indie pop-rock band from Warren, NJ has already made their mark on NYC with shows at Webster Hall, The Bowery Electric, and Angels & Kings. Though the band has only been around since September 2010, they have already shared the stage with Dub-Step artist Rusko, The Damned Things, and Cash Cash.

MaG has been dubbed “the future of NYC hip-hop” by famed producer Buckwild. Born and raised in the Bronx, MaG has appeared on several mixes by Chaundon, Rich London, DJ Denox, and DJ Wristpect. Along with features on allhiphop.com, hiphopgame.com, and vinylmeltdown.com, MaG was nominated for URB.com's Next 1000. 
Tayisha Busay (Brooklyn, NY) http://www.tayishabusay.com
Brooklyn’s own Tayisha Busay is an electro-dance band comprised of Tessa G, Ariel Sims, and Brandon Lalavek.  The spandex clad trio are entirely self-produced with their unique songs and performances composed of synthesizers, drum beats and synchronized choreography aimed to please the indie-rocker and club-goer alike.

The winning acts will be receiving a series of valuable services, discounts and resources, designed to help propel them to the next level. From booking and music distribution to marketing and promotion, the winners of NYC Rising will be provided access to a powerful network of resources necessary for independent acts to navigate the 21-century music industry.
