College Battle of the Bands Rolls Out 3rd Annual Competition


Presented by Chegg, with partners GRAMMY U, AT&T, and SESAC

Santa Monica, CA (March 14, 2011) — The search to find the best student bands and music artists from all colleges and universities nationwide kicks off during South By Southwest this week in Austin on March 20th, Local Battles around the country in ten additional markets will follow, concluding with a National Finale battle in Los Angeles in June for the Final Four artists in the US.

The competition is open to student music artists of any music genre including but not limited to: bands, solo artists, singer/songwriters, rock, hip hop, electronic, country, and and more! Student music artists will be battling for gear and cash prizing from partners Apple, Chegg, SESAC, GRAMMY U, AT&T, and more. Winning artists will also get opening spots on the upcoming Textbooks & Tickets Tour with Live Nation.


 

Like last season, the tour will feature host, and student-favorite hypeman Flula Borg. Past competition finalists include: The Local Natives, Mike Posner, Jake Snider, Beyond This Point, Ben Baxter Band, Allison Weiss, Keep Me Conscious, and more. Battles are judged by an industry-judges in each region. Last year's national finale included the likes of: John Baker – Management The Killers, PJ Bloom – Music Supervisor, Rob Accatino – GRAMMY U, Ashley Miller – SESAC, and more! Rob Accatino of GRAMMY U comments, “I have judged College Battle of the Bands for the past two years and am always blown away by the level of talent. This competition is the premier event for any college student or band looking to get exposure on a national level.

Additionally, for the third year in a row, the Elfenworks Foundation will award $5,000 in cash grants to the top artists that submit songs relating to a theme of social justice during the 2010-11 school year.
