Eminem, Lady Antebellum lead AMA noms

Awards to be handed out at Nokia Theatre on Nov. 21

Eminem and Lady Antebellum, the bestselling artists of 2010, lead nominations for the 38th annual American Music Awards, announced Tuesday, with five bids apiece.

AMAs will be handed out at L.A.'s Nokia Theater on Nov. 21 and broadcast live (in the East) on ABC. Confirmed performers on the show include Bon Jovi, Pink and Usher.

Nominees are drawn from BigChampagne's Ultimate Chart; winners will be determined by online voting at Amavote.com and Ama.abc.com.

Eminem's "Recovery" -- top-selling set of the year with 2.7 million shifted to date -- is up for favorite pop/rock and rap album. He will vie for artist of the year and pop/rock and rap/hip-hop male artist.

Trio Lady Antebellum -- whose album "Need You Now" has toted up 2.6 million units -- will compete for favorite pop/rock, country and adult contemporary band, duo or group, while "Need You Now" received a bid for country album.

Teenthrob Justin Bieber -- whose two albums have moved nearly 3.8 million -- reaped noms for artist of the year, male pop/rock artist and pop/rock album (for his sophomore effort "My World 2.0").

Both Bieber and Lady Antebellum are in the mix for the T-Mobile breakthrough artist award. Winner will be selected by text messaging and Web voting at Ama.abc.com. First round of voting runs through Oct. 22; top four in the slot will go head-to-head from Oct. 25 through the kudocast.

Hot-selling femme performers Lady Gaga, Ke$ha and Katy Perry are also in the running for artist of the year. Perry, Ke$ha, B.o.B and Usher captured three bids apiece.

Kudocast will be preceded on Nov. 19 by the American Music Conference, presented by Variety and Dick Clark Prods. at the Event Deck at L.A. Live.
