You don’t name yourselves Edgar Allan Poets without a taste for the dark. Indeed, vocalist/guitarist Chrisis from South Africa and drummer Lop Noor from Norway specialize in what they call “noir rock.” Drawing on the likes of Bauhaus and early Cure, EAP delivers literate, slightly skewed epics for goth fans everywhere. Says Chrisis: “What I like about music today is that if you find a way to reach people–using all the weapons available–you can create something bypassing the major labels, the big money biz. There is a chance for everybody.”

Pop/rock/country singer/songwriter – and Texas native – Laura Lee Bishop splits her time between Nashville and New York these days. Combining a muscular sound with sensitive and confident lyrics, Bishop wowed audiences during the 12th season of American Idol, and is now on her own road to fame and acclaim. Her latest single, “Real Man,” on Tommy Boy Records, is already receiving rapturous reviews. Expect to hear more from this singular songstress in the near future.

Favorably compared to PJ Harvey and David Bowie, there’s also a hint of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Mother Feather’ raucous, spellbinding shows, which is centered on lead singer Ann Courtney, who, with sidekick Elizabeth Carena, is backed by a ferocious three-piece band. New York club mainstays since 2010, Mother Feather specializes in what they call “pop cock-rock,” chockablock with anthemic riffs and persistent energy guaranteed to get even the most blasé patron up on his feet.
