President's Message

President's Message | Pat Collins, President & COO

SESAC is making headlines with the launch of an exciting new program – a monthly royalty distribution system – making SESAC the only PRO offering songwriters and music publishers royalty payments on a monthly basis! Perhaps the first in the world among PRO’s, SESAC will begin this paradigm shifting program with the acceleration of domestic/terrestrial radio performance royalty payments from the traditional quarterly distributions to monthly distributions in October 2012. This innovative change in royalty distribution is yet another example of SESAC’s dedication to providing the highest level of service, i.e. royalty accounting, speed, and payment accuracy to its songwriters and music publishers.

SESAC is also thrilled to celebrate its award-winning songwriters and music publisher affiliates at its annual Nashville Music Awards held at Music City’s chic Pinnacle at Symphony Place on October 28. Kicking off CMA Week festivities the awards event draws over 400 songwriters, publishers and music industry executives. SESAC will honor its esteemed Country & Americana affiliates who have enjoyed remarkable success over the past year including hits by the likes of Monty Powell (Keith Urban’s “For You”), Hillary Scott (Lady Antebellum’s “Dancing Away With My Heart” and “Wanted You More”) Catt Gravitt (Jake Owen’s No. 1 hit, “Alone With You” and breakout hit “Why Ya Wanna” by Jana Kramer), Jon Stone (Lee Brice’s chart-topper “A Woman Like You”) and incredible releases by The Avett Brothers, Ray Wylie Hubbard and many more. SESAC is proud to honor and celebrate the men and women who are so very important to the musical creative arts.

Congratulations to Neil Diamond who was honored with a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Diamond, who is one of music’s most honored and successful artists and songwriters with 37 Top Ten singles and over 135 million albums sold, is rightfully considered pop music royalty. After several decades in the business, Diamond continues to create brilliant and relevant music and maintain a busy concert schedule with no signs of slowing down. His continued success is both impressive and inspiring.

There is also no stopping Mumford & Sons. After the staggering success of their 2009 award-winning Sigh No More album, the group has managed to top themselves with the recent release of their latest project, Babel. The album promptly topped the Billboard 200 Album Chart, selling over 600,000 in its debut week. This auspicious debut established Babel as the best album debut of 2012. Mumford & Sons are currently on a worldwide tour proving to their millions of fans why they are music’s most exciting performers and music geniuses.

I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate SESAC’s Executive Vice President Dennis Lord on his recent Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association. As one of the organization’s founders, Dennis was an early advocate of the Americana Music Association providing the vision, passion, and guidance that were pivotal factors in recognizing Americana as the wideranging, distinctly American musical genre into which it has quickly grown. SESAC is very proud of its participation and support of the Americana Association, its songwriters and music publishers. Congratulations Dennis!
