SESAC Holds 12th Annual MusicAwards
Nate “Danja” Hills Takes Home Songwriter of the Year & Song of the Year Honors SEE A COMPLETE LIST OF SESAC AWARD RECIPIENTS
NEW YORK –Songwriter/producer Nate “Danja” Hills took home top honors when he was named Songwriter of the Year at SESAC’s 12th annual New York Music Awards held May 8 at Manhattan’s gorgeous Chelsea Piers. The award was in recognition of his astonishing array of hits in the last year including smashes by Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and 50 Cent. Hills also was the recipient of another of the evening’s big accolades earning the Song of the Year award for his smash hit, “Say It Right,” as recorded by Nelly Furtado. Since establishing himself as one of music’s most in-demand songwriters/producers, Hills has realized the kind of success not often witnessed. Propelled by his songwriting and production work on Justin Timberlake’s groundbreaking FutureSex/LoveSounds CD, Hills soon scored with his songwriting/production work on Nelly Furtado’s Loose project and the CD’s smash, “Say It Right.” Hills, who shared Songwriter of the Year honors in 2007 with Bryan-Michael Cox, also soared up the charts recently with his contribution to Timbaland’s hit, “The Way I Are” and “Give It To Me”, 50 Cent’s “Ayo Technology” and Justin Timberlake’s hit parade of “What Goes Around…Comes Around,” “Summer Love,” “Until The End Of Time” and “LoveStoned.” Hills also won a “Best Dance Recording” GRAMMY Award in 2008 for his production/songwriting work on Timberlake’s “LoveStoned/I Think She Knows” work. For the sixth consecutive year, SESAC Publisher of the Year honors went to WBM Music Corp. In addition to Song, Songwriter and Publisher of the Year honors, SESAC gave the prestigious SESAC Legacy Award to songwriter, musician and “Late Show With David Letterman” bandleader, Paul Shaffer. The award is in honor of Shaffer’s outstanding contribution to the music and entertainment world. The 2008 awards celebration drew more than 500 songwriters, publishers and industry professionals. The star-studded attendees including Nate “Danja” Hills, Bryan-Michael Cox, Swizz Beatz, Chrisette Michele and Jack Knight among many others. There were more than 50 songwriter and publisher award recipients in the categories of Pop, R&B/Hip-Hop, and Rock. Billboard Magazine was the event’s primary sponsor.
