2010 College Battle of the Bands names Apple Trees & Tangerines National Winner
Student band takes top honors at National Finale at the Wynn in Las Vegas
Santa Monica, CA (June 23, 2010) – The search to find the best student bands and music artists from over 100 colleges and universities nationwide concluded with a final battle at the world-famous Tryst Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas on Friday, June 11. Battling for the national title were: South Region winners Apple Trees & Tangerines (Lee University), North Region winners Beyond This Point (Five Towns College), West Region winners The Oregon Donor (Skagit Valley College), and the Wild Card winner Jake Snider (Columbia University). In a highly-competitive battle, Apple Trees & Tangerines came away as the national champion.

The National Finale was presented by AT&T with exclusive stage sponsor Chegg.com, and supporting partners GRAMMY U®, Gibson Guitar, SESAC, and the Elfenworks Foundation. The event also featured the sounds of Host Flula Borg, DJ Rhythm, and the battle was judged by an industry-studded panel including: John Baker – Management The Killers, PJ Bloom – Music Supervisor, Rob Accatino – GRAMMY U, Ashley Miller – SESAC, James Sleeman – Chegg.com, Patrick Genovese – Gibson Guitar, and the event producers.
Rob Accatino of GRAMMY U adds, “I have judged College Battle of the Bands for the past two years and am always blown away by the level of talent. This competition is the premier event for any college student or band looking to get exposure on a national level.”
Additionally, during the event, the Elfenworks Foundation awarded $5,000 in cash grants to the top artists that submitted songs relating to a theme of social justice during the 2009-10 school year. First place honors went to Beat Advocate (USC), second place honors went to A Silent Canvas (Lee College), and third place was awarded to The Taxi Project (Cabrillo College).
