New and Now

Amy Black

Amy Black

For singer/songwriter Amy Black, storytelling – and true Southern tradition – is in her blood, arriving with an undeniable sense of history, an irrepressible passion for performing, and a whole lot of authentic soul. And with her new album One Time, the Boston-based performer takes her shot, makes a stand and delivers one of the most evocative new Americana discs of the year. The album’s sound – crafted by producer Lorne Entress, best known for Lori McKenna’s Bittertown, is fueled by a rich mix of folk, blues, classic country and gritty soul that embodies Amy’s distinctive and powerful vocals. “I may not be telling my own stories,” Amy says, “but I’m connecting and empathizing with every character and emotion I’m writing about. Life isn’t always what people hope it’s going to be, and that’s everyone’s reality on some level.” For Amy Black, that reality is captured on One Time. And truly, her time is now.

World-renowned painter, C.W. Mundy, is expanding his artistic scope through his debut CD, Road Trip. The 16-track recording of all-original music (and artwork, of course) features Mundy’s banjo skills, as well as those in musical composition. Released in August, the multi-genre CD is a culmination of his vast musical experiences and influences, ranging from jazz and blues to bluegrass and Americana. Recorded at Digital Underground Studio, a facility in Greenbriar, TN, belonging to long-time friend and revered banjo player, Scott Vestal, Mundy knew he was the perfect choice to help make that dream a reality. Bringing in some of Nashville’s most prominent musicians, including Randy Kohrs on resonator guitar, lap steel, and vocals, Chris Brown on percussion, Jim Van Cleve on fiddle, and Alice Vestal on lead and harmony vocals, to name just a few, the CD is exactly that: a dream come true.

JHart

At 23 years old, British-born songwriter James “JHart” Abrahart is no stranger to the American music scene. After only a couple years on the music industry radar, he is quickly building a reputation for doing things that plenty of others in similar situations couldn’t. With a catalogue of pop, dance, country, rock, R&B, gospel and alternative music, he has worked with and had cuts with the likes of David Guetta, Jordin Sparks, Pia Toscano, Melanie Fiona, Paul Oakenfold, Monty Powell, Bryan-Michael Cox, Brian Kennedy and Dallas Austin. JHart hopes to help bring strong lyrical content and storytelling back to mainstream music while building a reputation as a universally respected lyricist, and if what others are saying is any indication, he might be on a fast track to do just that..

Jon Wolfe

Jon Wolfe

The best introduction to Jon Wolfe is the basic yet not so simple fact that he’s a country singer and songwriter. Country music, as it was, is and always should be, with boots firmly standing on the bedrock of tradition and an eye focused on taking it into the future. And that, as any fan of true country knows, is no simple proposition. Jon’s drive to sing country music was so strong that it prompted him to leave a lucrative position as a commodities trader for a large oil company to dedicate himself to honing his talents as a country singer, songwriter and performer. Now entrenched in the music he so dearly loves, Wolfe released a 2010 album It All Happened in a Honky Tonk introducing a modern country singer/songwriter whose music strikes a perfect balance between the best country traditions and contemporary energy and vision. “There’s something a little bigger than just my dreams going on in country music,” he said. “That’s why I feel so strongly about doing what I do.” And to make it all even sweeter, “I’m doing what I love.”
